Engineering Plastics Technical Director, Bio-based Polyamides, Cathay Industrial Biotech Ltd.

Founded in 1997, Cathay Industrial Biotech has realized commercial-scale production of revolutionary products, including bio-based polyamides, bio-based DN5 (1,5-pentanediamine), long chain dibasic acids (LCDA) and biobutanol.

In recent years, Cathay has successfully developed the DN5 via bio-manufacturing and produced downstream bio-based polyamide with extraordinary performance benefits.

The raw material of Cathay's bio-based polyamides is from renewable starchy plants. It is the most advanced bio-manufacturing materials ever since the invention of petrol-based PA66 and PA6. Cathay's bio-based polyamide has been tested by downstream industries, not only as renewable substitute to traditional materials, but as unique and novel polymers for the textile and industrial plastic market.

Cathay currently operates two production sites and one R&D center in China. The R&D center is located in the Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. The commercial development platform focuses on research of molecular biology, fermentation process engineering, polymer material, etc.

Key Skills

Major in the areas of polymer or materials science, master's degree or above, doctor's degree is preferred;Over 5 years’ technical management experience in related industry of engineering plastics; Polyamide (PA) is preferred


Key Responsibilities

Lead the Engineering Plastics Application and Technical support team to drive growth of Bio-based Polyamides applied in the engineering plastics business.
Work closely with commercial team, identify technical trends of different engineering plastics industry segments including transportation, electrical and electronics, etc.
Work with down-stream compounding plant and/or end users to customize the product development and formulation modification for engineering materials, covering compounds with various technical properties, such as structure reinforced, flame retardant, high gravity and lubrication.
Utilize R&D resource and coordinate with manufacturing plant to deliver solutions to meet market needs
Optimize the cost and quality to improve the commercial competitiveness of the bio-based polyamides products of the company
Manager and develop technical team to meet to KPI targets
Develop technical specifications and documents according to quality and/or customers’ requirements.
Lead the relevant certification process for down-stream application where applicable.


Major in the areas of polymer or materials science, master's degree or above, doctor's degree is preferred;
Over 5 years’ technical management experience in related industry of engineering plastics; Polyamide (PA) is preferred
Experience in compounding, plastic injection and process support.
Knowledge of plastics characterization and testing required
Good leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication and team worker,
Result orientated, strive for successful and good project management skill,
Fluent language skills (both written and verbal) in English, bilingual in Chinese preferred.
